How do Illinois couples know when it is time to divorce?

Divorce is a difficult and life-changing decision that not only affects the spouses but also their children, families and friends. No one enters a marriage expecting it to end in divorce, but sometimes, it may be the best option for everyone involved. But, how do Illinois couples know when it is time to divorce?

Is it time?

There is no simple answer to this question. Every marriage and situation is unique. However, there are some common signs that may indicate that a divorce is imminent.

The signs

If you tried counseling or therapy, but it did not help or made things worse, it may be time to divorce. If you have grown apart and have little or no communication, intimacy or affection, it could be time. If you have irreconcilable differences or incompatible goals and values, or lost respect, trust or love for each other, it may be time to divorce.

In addition, if you have been abused or cheated on by your spouse, or you have abused or cheated on your spouse, it may be time to call it quits. If you are unhappy, depressed or anxious in your marriage and feel hopeless about the future, or if you are staying together only for the sake of the children, finances or social pressure, it is also time.

What if I recognize these signs?

Divorce is a difficult and emotional process to navigate. It includes dividing assets and debts, determining child custody and support and resolving spousal maintenance issues. Divorce is not an easy decision, but sometimes, it may be the best decision for you and your spouse. However, if you are experiencing any of these signs, you may want to consider divorce.
